On April 9th at 7pm, Fair Folks & a Goat will host a screening of the award winning short film The Price of Flowers. The film was written and directed by Ashley Charbonnet, a native of New Orleans and graduate of Columbia University’s graduate film program. After having made its international debut at the 29th Annual Vancouver International Film Festival and received Honors at the Topanga Film Festival in Los Angeles, California, Ms. Charbonnet is pleased to bring the film to its city of origin.

The Price of Flowers is the story of Red who lives with his disabled lover in on the edge of poverty. To support them both, Red peddles Carnations on the streets of New Orleans. In the course of one day Red’s will is tested and he must decide if he can go on in his struggle to keep them both alive. This film describes how the fundamental components of happiness, particularly having a home of one’s own, can be so out of reach for those living outside the system.
A true product of the city, the film was entirely shot and cast in New Orleans. The film stars Lance Nichols (Tremé) as Red and Justin Scalise (Big Easy Award Winner and Falstaff Award nominee) as Red’s crippled lover, Sal. The film was produced by New Orleans’ own Christopher C. Brown, a graduate of Southeastern Louisiana University and the producer of award winning short films as well as the 48 hr. film competition. Both Ms. Charbonnet and Mr. Brown will be in attendance at the screening. The Price of Flowers is still in consideration for film festivals world wide and is in development as a feature film.
