In a world filled with negativity and corruption, here-say and deceit, a world where your name has been trashed and wrung out of any positive association, I am here to write you an honest and true love letter.

I love how you became the “anti supermodel” of the 90s, pushing Naomi Campbell, that bitch Cindy Crawford and their curvaceous bodies to the curb.  You stood your ground, though wary of small breezes that may have swept away your waif-like body, and created an entire new genre of modeling: heroin chic. The name itself is truly genius. Take something as nasty and destructive as heroin and associate it with something beautiful, like models. Genius.

I will never forget the first time I heard your most popular quote, “Nothing tastes as good as skinny feels.”  At that moment, in my little gay brain, everything made sense. It is a quote to live by, truly.

Kate, you are a powerful woman. So powerful, in fact, that because of your heroin chic look President Bill Clinton addressed the entire nation on the topic of eating disorders. How rude of the country to accuse you of having an eating disorder. I mean it’s obvious you were a healthy woman. You said it yourself, “It was just the time.  It was a swing from more buxom girls like Cindy Crawford (bitch) and people were shocked to see what they called a ‘waif’.  What can you say?  How many times can you say “I’m not anorexic?”

Ok so I know you didn’t call Cindy a bitch, I added that part, but good for you for standing your ground. And then there was that little incident in the early 2000s with the cocaine. I love a good scandal, so thank you for that. Nevermind whether you did the coke or not (you probably did AND THAT’S OK we all make “mistakes”). More importantly thanks for the hours upon hours of news reports and online articles that were a direct result of your coke scandal.

But seriously, let’s have some real talk for a moment. Your editorials for Chanel, Calvin Klein, and Burberry (to name a few) are some of the greatest editorials in the history of modeling. You truly are the supermodel of a century, with a look that photographs like no other (refer back to heroin chic). I mean, what other model can say that they have graced the cover of British Vogue 30 times? NO ONE. So Kate, I know I am no movie star or famous photographer or anything of that nature, I’m just little ol’ me with big ol’ dreams and a few possibly unhealthy obsessions. I hope you read this letter one day and smile. Hopefully the botox hasn’t left you incapable of smiling, but If it has THAT’S OK TOO.

Love always,
Brian
