Each year in December, 3 Ring Circus Arts Education Center – THE BIG TOP, participates in the citywide celebration of photography, called PhotoNOLA, by exhibiting photography shows by established and emerging artists.  This year we sharpen focus on the technological marriage of cameras and phones while also exploring the communication concept behind the social networking site, Twitter. By randomly combining tweets  (definition: a 140 character fragment of a global conversation) with photography shot via phones – we aim to discover the state of art and dialogue in the 21st century. Approximately 300 images will be accepted on a first come first served basis to show from December 2nd to December 31st, 2011.This show will be on view for the PhotoNOLA Gala 2011 and Prospect 2.

@PHONOGRAPHY is an open call show exploring the impromptu visions captured via phone cameras. A 300 dpi image is to be submitted via email along with application form and  all applications will require the applicant to randomly select 3 tweets to copy and paste into the application form.The tweets do not have to have any relevance to the subject matter of the submitted image, as they will be picked at random to accompany images. Entry fee is $25 and covers printing, matting, framing and hanging costs of  image. Each piece will be for sale to the public for $50 with 50% of the proceeds benefiting 3 Ring Circus Arts Education Center.

 

A panel of local photographers, members of 3 Ring Circus, New Orleans Photography Alliance and Humid Beings will judge and will award a 1st, 2nd and 3rd place ribbons (with prizes). The awards will be given on the night of the opening. There will also be a people’s choice contest that will run throughout the length of the exhibit (thru December 31st)
