I should have known that I would love Chickie Wah Wah the moment I heard the name, but alas I dawdled for many years until I finally made it to the bar in 2012. Thankfully, my high expectations were met as I was greeted with a place as memorable as the giggle-worthy name. Chickie Wah Wah boasts a selection of food, music, and spirits and indeed they deliver this holy trinity most wondrously. The grub is heavenly, the music is live and varied, and the happy hour is frequent. With its casual atmosphere and central location – in Mid-City right on the Canal streetcar line! – the Wah Wah is essentially a one-stop shop for your essentials and desires. There aren’t many places on this stretch of Canal Street where you can grab a drink and some grub while listening to jazz, blues, rock or a plethora of other types of music live almost every night a week. When you visit don’t hold back – if you eat or drink too much you can always take public transit home. Who could ask for more?
