by Rachael Kostelec For many of us, it doesn’t feel like Al Capone and Bugs Moran led the only St. Valentine’s Day Massacre. Whether or not you are in a relationship when February 14th strikes, the pressures are still on. If you are committed to someone the expectations are probably high. Serious planning, large quantities of money, and grand gestures are in order if you plan on keeping them around next year. If you haven’t been struck by that little bastard cupid and his notorious arrows, you are probably not… Read More »
NOLA Street Style: Krewe du Vieux Edition
Alas, my master plan was thwarted. I had it all thought out – I would head to Frenchman St. early in the day, on foot, and take pictures of revelers along the way. Krewe du Vieux was the first Mardi Gras parade of this Carnival season and I wanted to capture stylish individuals watching the parade on camera. Yet, the rain stopped me from venturing out as early as I wanted to and by the time I was able to head downtown, the light of day was almost gone. Fortunately,… Read More »
InvadeNOLA Guide to New Orleans – Issue 3
It’s not that I hate Valentine’s Day. It’s just that as far as holidays are concerned, V-day is so saccharinely sweet that the mere thought of giving someone a pink bear dressed up as cupid makes me want to vomit. Of course they’re playing nothing but Nickelback and Taylor Swift. Unless you’re in high school or just really love the sound of Chad Kroeger’s voice that’s not going to cut it. Your jump off is now bouncing out the door faster than the Saints out of the playoffs. Too soon? Nope! But if you do… Read More »
Rediscovering the Revelry
Born in New Orleans and raised in Baton Rouge, Fat Tuesday has unsurprisingly been a part of my life since year one. Parades, King Cakes and beads were annual staples growing up, so by the time I graduated high school and moved to New Orleans to attend UNO in 2006 I was a little burned out. I’d overdosed on the revelry and I’d had it with the traffic. All four years I was in college I virtually boycotted Mardi Gras. I was more into studying than parading (nerd alert!) and it didn’t… Read More »
